Ex Burkes mechanic Ricky took 2 bikes out to the PNP club champs on Saturday the 29th of Jan to race, here's his thoughts
"I rode the Epic29er in the XC and the short course race and the Enduro Expert in the Super D race.
I was pleasantly surprised at the Epic 29er and how it handled. I've ridden and raced on 29ers before, but the Epic was a comfort level up. I was able to find the centre of the bike very quickly and easily and this provided for a very reassuring handling feeling on the descents. First time down Spoonhill was pretty quick (bear in mind, literally the first ride on the bike) and filled me with heaps of confidence in the bike. 2nd time down, I was on song and flying, roots were no issue, either rolling over or braking on them. Traction for Africa and a super stable ride. And when my legs came right on the 3rd time up Jungle Jim, the bike climbed amazing (before that it was my motor letting me down)
I was slightly apprehensive with the Enduro, as coming down Beeline having not ridden it in a year, and only a handful of time before that, on a bike that I hadn't ridden before, nor even really set up, was a cause for worry. But it turned out completely fine. The Enduro was a very neutral handler and super capable. Felt at home right away, which was good as after only the 4th corner or so on the bike was a wee step down gap into a table and a small lil double. No worries, even with not really knowing where I was going to well, the bike was responsive enough to get away with a few errors and mistimings. And it pedals amazingly well also, which helped my poor wee tired legs.
Very nice bikes, I can highly recommend either. With the Epic definitely getting a standout thumbs up"
